1885 - Warren S. Johnson, a professor at the University of Wisconsin, invents the first electric room thermostat, which leads to the founding of Johnson Controls.
1902 - Johnson Electric Service Company is established, marking the beginning of Johnson Controls.
1911 - The company is renamed Johnson Electric Company.
1930s - Johnson Controls begins to expand its product line to include temperature control systems for buildings.
1961 - The company goes public with an initial public offering (IPO).
1970s - Johnson Controls expands globally, establishing operations in Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
1985 - The company acquires Penn Controls, a leading manufacturer of HVAC controls.
1990s - Johnson Controls begins to focus on energy efficiency and sustainability, introducing new products and services to support these initiatives.
2005 - The company acquires York International, a leading manufacturer of HVAC equipment.
2016 - Johnson Controls merges with Tyco International, creating Johnson Controls International plc.
