2005 - Brookdale acquired American Retirement Corporation, adding 144 communities to its portfolio.
2006 - The company acquired Alterra Healthcare Corporation, expanding its presence in the assisted living market.
2014 - Brookdale merged with Emeritus Senior Living, creating one of the largest senior living companies in the United States.
2018 - The company sold its skilled nursing facility business to focus on private pay senior living.
