1956 - Gabriel Escarrer Juliá founded Meliá Hotels International, S.A. in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
1964 - The company opened its first hotel, the Meliá Palma, in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
1972 - Meliá Hotels International, S.A. went public with an initial public offering (IPO).
1980 - The company expanded internationally, opening its first hotel in the Dominican Republic.
1996 - Meliá Hotels International, S.A. acquired the Sol Meliá hotel chain, expanding its portfolio.
2002 - The company launched its first luxury hotel brand, Gran Meliá.
2005 - Meliá Hotels International, S.A. acquired the Tryp hotel chain, expanding its presence in Europe and Latin America.
2010 - The company launched its first all-inclusive resort brand, Meliá All-Inclusive.
2011 - Meliá Hotels International, S.A. acquired a 50% stake in the Spanish hotel chain, NH Hoteles.
2019 - The company launched its new brand, INNSIDE by Meliá, focused on the bleisure segment.
