1846 - The Provident Union of Teachers for the Promotion of Mutual Thrift was founded, which later became Nationwide Building Society.
1897 - The society changed its name to the Co-operative Permanent Building Society.
1907 - The society merged with the Cheltenham and Gloucester Permanent Benefit Building Society.
1946 - The society changed its name to the Nationwide Building Society.
1964 - Nationwide merged with the Northampton Town and County Building Society.
1987 - Nationwide merged with the Anglia Building Society.
1991 - Nationwide acquired the Gateway Building Society.
2007 - Nationwide acquired the Portman Building Society.
2016 - Nationwide acquired the Cheshire and Derbyshire Building Societies.
