1918 - Celanese Corporation was founded as a subsidiary of British Celanese Ltd.
1929 - The company began producing cellulose acetate, a key component in film and photography.
1940 - Celanese Corporation began producing synthetic fibers, including acetate and triacetate.
1950 - The company expanded its operations to Europe and Asia.
1960 - Celanese Corporation introduced its first polyester fibers.
1986 - The company was acquired by Hoechst AG, a German chemical company.
1999 - Celanese Corporation was spun off from Hoechst AG and became an independent company again.
2004 - The company acquired the Acetate Products business from Solutia Inc.
2007 - Celanese Corporation acquired the Dacron polyester fiber business from Invista.
2012 - The company acquired the Vilaxi business from Ashland Inc.
