1883 - PPG Industries, Inc. was founded as Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company by Captain John B. Ford and John Pitcairn.
1900 - The company began producing flat glass for the automotive industry.
1920 - PPG introduced the first all-glass windshield for automobiles.
1946 - The company changed its name to PPG Industries, Inc. to reflect its diversified product line.
1950 - PPG began producing fiberglass, which was used in the production of boats and automobiles.
1968 - The company acquired its first international subsidiary, PPG Industries Canada Ltd.
1980 - PPG introduced its first line of industrial coatings.
1990 - The company acquired the automotive coatings business of DuPont.
2000 - PPG Industries, Inc. acquired the automotive coatings business of Nippon Paint.
2008 - The company acquired the SigmaKalon Group, a leading coatings company in Europe.
2013 - PPG Industries, Inc. acquired AkzoNobel's North American decorative coatings business.
2015 - The company acquired the specialty materials business of Hi-Tek Polymers.
