1.b. Last Insights on ZBRA

Negative drivers behind Zebra Technologies Corporation's recent performance include missed earnings estimates, increasing expenses, and declining cash levels. The company's Q4 earnings release revealed a revenue growth of 10.6%, but this was offset by a decline in adjusted EBITDA margin to 22.1%. Additionally, the company's cash levels declined, which may indicate a potential liquidity issue. Furthermore, the company's recent earnings estimate revisions may not translate into an upside in the stock, as it may face economic uncertainty and margin pressure from memory pricing in 2026.

  • Full-Year Free Cash Flow:: Generated $800M in free cash flow, returning $600M to shareholders via share repurchases, with $1B in expanded buyback authorization.
  • 2026 RFID Growth:: RFID business projected to deliver high double-digit growth, fueled by retail, logistics, and emerging sectors like food and government.
  • Margin Resilience:: Maintained 22.1% adjusted EBITDA margin despite memory component price hikes, with plans to fully offset headwinds via pricing and cost controls.
  • Debt & Liquidity:: Debt leverage at 2x, strong cash position, and $300M in Q4 share repurchases, aiming to return ~50% of $900M free cash flow in 2026.

Financial Performance Highlights

The company's financial performance was marked by significant returns to shareholders, with over $300,000,000 of repurchases in Q4 and nearly $600,000,000 for the full year. The company's debt leverage is around 2x, with a strong cash position and a healthy balance sheet.

Guidance and Outlook

Zebra Technologies expects sales growth of 11% to 15% in the first quarter and 9% to 13% for the full year, with an adjusted EBITDA margin of approximately 22% and non-GAAP diluted earnings per share between $17.70 and $18.30. The company is well-positioned to benefit from secular trends to digitize and automate workflows, with a $35,000,000,000 served market representing a significant growth opportunity. Analysts estimate next year's revenue growth at 5.2%, indicating a potential slowdown in growth rate.

Valuation Metrics

With a P/E Ratio of 31.8, P/B Ratio of 3.71, and EV/EBITDA of 15.54, the company's valuation appears to be relatively high. However, the Free Cash Flow Yield of 6.2% and ROIC of 8.63% suggest that the company is generating strong cash flows and returns on invested capital. The Net Debt / EBITDA ratio of 2.6 indicates a manageable debt burden.

Business Trends and Opportunities

The company is accelerating investments in RFID, machine vision, and AI, and has a strong pipeline of opportunities. The RFID business is expected to see high double-digit growth in 2026, driven by broad-based opportunities across the supply chain. The machine vision business is recovering, driven by growth in transportation and logistics, as well as manufacturing wins.

Challenges and Risk Management

The company is working to mitigate the impact of memory shortages on its business, particularly in mobile devices. It has secured early samples of new memory and is collaborating with suppliers to ensure a stable supply. Industry-wide price increases for memory components are expected to be a two-point headwind, but the company expects to fully mitigate this impact through various initiatives.
